MEXICO: Doubts cast on Ayotzinapa evidence

The Ayotzinapa truth and justice commission (Covaj) made a splash in August when it published a report on the infamous 2014 massacre of 43 teacher training students in the southern state of Guerrero. The report injected fresh momentum into an investigation that, eight years on, has failed to secure any convictions or clarify what happened to the students killed that day and why. The report prompted the issuing of 83 arrest warrants and led to several high-profile arrests. However, now this progress is in danger as the veracity of some 467 WhatsApp screenshots used as evidence in the report is being called into question.
