MEXICO: Government clashes with Calderón

There is a dispute brewing between Mexico’s Interior Minister Adán Augusto López – a key figure within the cabinet of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – and former president Felipe Calderón (2006-2012). The disagreement centres on claims made by the interior minister that international courts are investigating Calderón, who governed for the right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), over his alleged involvement in a botched US sting operation, which saw authorities allow thousands of firearms to be smuggled into Mexico between 2006 and 2011.
