Honduras: On 4 November Honduras’s President
Xiomara Castro met US Assistant Secretary of Defence for Homeland Defence and Hemispheric Affairs
Melissa Dalton during Dalton’s visit to Honduras to observe the USNS (US Naval Ship) Comfort mission in Puerto Cortés, Honduras’s main port, in Cortés department, as part of Continuing Promise 2022, a medical mission. According to a US embassy tweet, the US supports a “
prosperous, secure and democratic Honduras”. It notes that the two women “
discussed our support for strengthening Honduras’s healthcare system and disaster response abilities. A strong Honduras is both of our countries’ goals.” According to a press release by the US Department of Defence, Honduras is the second out of five countries to be visited by the USNS Comfort. During her visit Dalton visited Joint Task Force Bravo (JTF-Bravo), a task force which operates out of the Soto Cano Air Base, a Honduran military installation located in the Comayagua department and conducted various key leader engagements with senior officials from Honduras to “
discuss the US-Honduras bilateral defence relationship and opportunities for enhanced cooperation on shared challenges”.
