MEXICO: Morena defiant in face of electoral reform protests

Tens of thousands of Mexicans took to the streets across the country on 13 November to show their opposition to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposed electoral reform. The demonstrations were one of the largest shows of resistance to López Obrador’s policies since he took office in December 2018 and provided an opportunity for the political opposition to appear more united than it had for months. However, in typical fashion, López Obrador and his ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) have downplayed the significance of the protests, and attacked the motives of those attending.
