In brief: Chile’s economic activity continues to slow

* Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has released new figures which show that the country’s GDP increased by 0.3% in the third quarter of 2022 as compared to the same period of 2021. BCCh highlighted year-on-year growth of services, particularly personal services and transportation, but stated this was offset by yearly declines in commerce and mining. In quarterly terms, economic activity decreased 1.2% in the third quarter. According to the BCCh, this result was mainly explained by the performance of personal services, mining and commerce. This follows year-on-year growth of 5.6% in Q2 2022, 7.4% in Q1 2022, and 12.0% in the Q4 2021.
