MEXICO: Surge in crossings at US-Mexico border

Local and international media reported on 12 December that over 1,500 migrants had crossed the Mexican border at Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua state and entered El Paso, Texas, in what is believed to be one of the largest single crossings of migrants in recent years. This comes as many more migrants are expected to arrive at the US-Mexico border next week, when Title 42, the controversial US federal order allowing authorities to rapidly expel asylum-seeking migrants, is set to be lifted.
