In brief: Record trade surplus in Brazil

* Brazil’s economy ministry has announced that the country registered a trade surplus of US$62.3bn in 2022, representing an increase of 1.5% on 2021’s trade surplus and the highest figure since records began in 1989. Exports in 2022 were up 19.3% year-on-year to total US$335bn, while imports were up 24.3% to total US$272.7bn. The latest figures for December showed a monthly trade surplus of US$4.8bn (up 24.5% year-on-year), with exports totalling US$26.6bn and imports totalling US$21.9bn.
