In brief: Yearly job creation up in Mexico

* Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released a new report which shows that as of 31 December 2022, it had registered a total of 21.37m jobs. This means that 345,705 jobs were lost in the formal sector in December, a monthly decrease of 1.6%. However, IMSS announced that in the whole of 2022, 752,748 jobs were created – the third biggest yearly increase ever registered, equivalent to an annual increase of 3.7%. The economic sectors that registered the highest annual percentage job growth were transport & communications (+6.4%), construction (+5.5%) and business services (+4.1%). IMSS highlighted the states of Tabasco, Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo as having yearly increases in job creation over 8%.
