In brief: Nicaragua’s inflation picks up

*The latest figures from Nicaragua’s national institute of development information (Inide) show that the monthly inflation rate in December was 1.61%, bringing the annual rate to 11.59%. The monthly rate is up from 0.68% in November while the annual rate is up from 11.38%. According to Inide, the monthly rate was driven by recreation & culture (+20.51%) as well as food & non-alcoholic beverages (+1.52%) and restaurants & hotels (+1.79%) while transport and health both registered declines (-0.07%) and (-0.09%) respectively.
