In brief: Ecuador’s tax take surges

* The director of Ecuador’s tax authority (SRI), Francisco Briones Rugel, has announced that the government’s tax take in 2022 was 22.8% higher than in 2021, totalling US$17.16bn. Briones said that 16.3% of this increase was due to the economic reactivation following measures taken to limit the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19), and that 6.5% of the increase stemmed from the tax reform which President Guillermo Lasso signed into law in November 2021.
