MEXICO: A united opposition?

The pre-campaign period for two key gubernatorial elections kicked off following a show of unity from Mexico’s three main opposition parties on 12 January. The right-wing Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), centrist Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), and left-wing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) announced that they would run as a coalition in both elections, as well as in the presidential race in 2024. This marked a buoyant return for the Va por México opposition alliance which has been plagued by disagreements in recent months [WR-22-36].
