In brief: US aviation administration to open Mexico office

*US ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar has announced that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has opened its first office in Mexico. In a statement, Salazar said that the US “has no more important partner in civil aviation” than Mexico and that the new office would “enhance cooperation with aviation authorities and private industry while strengthening North American integration”. In May 2021, the FAA downgraded Mexico’s air safety rating to Category 2, meaning Mexico could not add capacity, frequencies, or routes to the US.
