CHILE: Opposition given more ammunition to blast Boric

Chile’s political opposition savaged the government led by President Gabriel Boric this week, accusing it of “extreme amateurism” that was jeopardising the country’s standing on the international stage. Boric was put in an awkward position during his visit to Argentina to attend the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) on 24 January after the publication of an audio recording accidentally leaked to the press on which Chile’s foreign minister, Antonia Urrejola, could be heard referring pejoratively to the Argentine ambassador to Chile, Rafael Bielsa, following his comments about the government’s decision to cancel the Dominga copper and iron mining project last week [WR-23-03].
