*Cuba’s energy & mining ministry has announced the arrival of a new floating power plant from Turkish energy company Karadeniz Holding which will provide 240MW to Cuba’s national electricity system (SEN). This is the eighth such floating plant received amid Cuba’s efforts to strengthen its grid and address the continued blackouts which have intensified since Hurricane Ian hit the island in late September 2022, knocking out its power system and causing significant damage. The arrival of the new floating power plant follows agreements reached by Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a visit to Turkey by Díaz-Canel in late November, in a rare international tour which also took in Russia, China and Algeria.
