HAITI: PM’s residence attacked amid unrest sparked by police killings

Armed individuals claiming to be police (PNd’H) officials recently staged violent protests in Port-au-Prince, targeting, among other things, the residence of Prime Minister Ariel Henry (who was away at the time). This drew particular alarm, given the July 2021 brutal murder of former president Jovenel Moïse (2017-2021). Sparked by a string of killings of PNd’H officers in recent weeks, the violence targeting the police, and the riots in response, signal an escalation of the multifaceted crisis afflicting the country, which has intensified following Moïse’s assassination, and has been met with significant alarm by the international community.
