MEXICO: Former officials cause stir in García Luna trial

The trial of Mexico’s former top public security official Genaro García Luna has entered its third week. García Luna, who is being tried in New York, stands accused of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from the Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation (DTO) while serving as public security minister (2006-2012) and as head of Mexico’s federal investigations agency (AFI) before that. In recent days testimonies from other former Mexican officials who have been convicted in the US on corruption charges have caused quite a stir.
