* Mexico’s foreign ministry (SRE) has announced that Chinese telecoms firm Huawei is launching a US$1.6m programme to incentivise start-ups in Mexico. The ‘Spark’ programme, which Huawei has developed in collaboration with the Mexican agency for international development and cooperation (Amexcid), looks to support 139 start-ups, of which 60 will be of Mexican origin. Those participating in the programme will receive financial support of between US$2,000 and US$100,000, vouchers to access Huawei’s Cloud services and the development of a marketing strategy through Huawei’s team in Mexico. Companies wishing to participate in the programme must apply by 31 May, with selected start-ups announced at the beginning of July. Amexcid’s director of academic exchange,
Eduardo García Lima, said the project will look to incorporate start-ups from countries in the Pacific Alliance trade bloc, comprising Chile, Colombia, and Peru, as well as Mexico.
