PERU: Boluarte and Fujimori discuss crisis

Peru’s President Dina Boluarte met the leader of the right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP), Keiko Fujimori, on 15 February as part of a dialogue process to seek a way out of the country’s political crisis. Fujimori echoed Boluarte’s calls for both presidential and congressional elections to be brought forward, while ruling out any intention of seeking the presidency herself. Boluarte had little to gain from meeting Fujimori. FP is not an obstacle in congress, having tabled its own bill to bring elections forward. And the meeting is only likely to confirm protesters in their suspicions that Boluarte is dancing to the tune of the right and is not the left-winger she professes to be.
