MEXICO: Cuba and Mexico boost ties

Much bonhomie was on show between Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel on the latter’s visit to Mexico on 11 February. López Obrador awarded Díaz-Canel the Order of the Aztec Eagle (the highest Mexican decoration awarded to foreigners), railed against US sanctions on Cuba, and laid out plans to hire more Cuban doctors to work in Mexico.
