In brief: Brazil’s monthly economic activity rises after long slump

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest economic activity index (IBC-Br) which was created to anticipate Brazil's official GDP figures, which are calculated by the national statistics institute (Ibge). The latest index shows that in December 2022 economic activity was up by 0.29% in seasonally-adjusted terms compared with the previous month. In year-on-year terms, economic activity was up by 2.90%. The December figures marked the first time since July 2022 that economic activity increased in monthly terms.
