In brief: Petro and Maduro pledge to boost Colombia-Venezuela trade

* Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro and Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro have signed a binational agreement to boost trade between the two countries and to focus on trade complementarity. Following a meeting on the Tienditas international bridge that connects the Venezuelan state of Táchira with the Colombian department of Norte de Santander, the two leaders issued a joint statement affirming their goal of “fomenting integration, development and joint economic balance, strengthening bilateral trade and furthering our relations along the border.” According to a press release from the Colombian presidency, they discussed adjusting tariffs to “balance the conditions of the trade exchange in order to stimulate productive supply chains and achieve economic complementarity”.
