NICARAGUA: Bolaños empowered to destroy missiles

Nicaragua's national assembly last week voted to give President Enrique Bolaños a free hand to determine the scope and sequencing of an eventual reduction of the SAM-7 arsenal which the US has been pressing hard to achieve. Government sources are now suggesting that Nicaragua might retain only about 500 of the 2,000 missiles it now holds.
