CUBA: Blackouts intensify amid other economic woes

Cuba has suffered four major power cuts in the last two weeks, serving to again highlight the precarious energy situation facing the island state whose entire grid was knocked out by Hurricane Ian in late September [WR-22-41]. Ahead of Hurricane Ian, blackouts were already an increasingly regular occurrence in Cuba, as a result of crumbling infrastructure, and had previously ignited protests [WR-22-41]. The latest outages come amid other worrying economic indicators for the Partido Comunista de Cuba (PCC) government.
