In brief: Brazil’s Eletrobras sees profits slump

* The Brazilian electricity company Eletrobras, which was privatised in June 2022, has posted a loss of R$479m (US$91.3m) for the fourth quarter of 2022. This brought Eletrobras’ total liquid profits in 2022 to R$3.6bn, down from R$5.7bn in 2021. Eletrobras partially attributed the slump to its provision last year of R$2.5bn to former subsidiary Amazonas Energia. The company also highlighted that it made R$5.6bn in investments in 2022, including R$563m in energy generation and R$827m in transmission in Q4.
