* Mexico’s economy (SE) and labour (STPS) ministries have released a joint statement saying a government investigation had found
“serious irregularities” at a Manufacturas Vu auto parts factory in Piedras Negras municipality, Coahuila state. The SE and STPS said that Manufacturas Vu had taken
“decisive actions” to
“hinder the free exercise of the rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining” of workers at the plant. On 9 February, the US
had asked Mexico’s government to review whether workers’ rights were being denied at the plant – the second such request filed in relation to the factory under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The Mexican government will now start a ten-day consultation period with the US government to try and reach a reparation plan.
