ARGENTINA | Government intervenes in Edesur. Argentina’s government announced a 180-day intervention in the management of the electricity utility company Edesur on 20 March after two weeks of power cuts caused by soaring summer temperatures. Justifying the intervention, Economy Minister Sergio Massa said that the power cuts “cannot be tolerated any longer”, and that Edesur would be fined a total of Ar$2.7bn (US$13.2m) because of them. He stressed that the intervention was administrative and would not affect the operational management of the company or shareholder rights.
