DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: PLD heavyweights arrested in major crackdown

Key figures who served under former president Danilo Medina (2012-2020) of the now-opposition Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) have been arrested as part of a major anti-corruption operation, ‘Calamar’ (‘Squid’). The arrests come just weeks after Medina’s siblings Alexis Medina and Magalys Medina were among those sent to trial [WR-23-08] on charges relating to the so-called ‘Operation Antipulpo’ (‘Anti-Octopus’), another probe into a high-level corruption network implicating the previous Medina administration.
