The possibility that Argentina could buy a consignment of Chinese-made JF-17 fighter aircraft, dismissed last year as unlikely by President Alberto Fernández, is back in the news again, suggesting some kind of negotiation is in progress. Various sources suggest the sale continues to be actively discussed. The Argentine embassy in Beijing posted on the Weibo social network that Ambassador Sabino Vaca Narvaja and Defence Minister Jorge Taiana had met recently to discuss the terms for purchasing 12 JF-17s and 40 8x8 armoured vehicles (manufactured by Chinese company Norinco) for some US$664m.
