President Xiomara Castro’s instruction to commence negotiations to open diplomatic relations with mainland China [WR-23-11] has now been carried out. On 25 March the Honduran government confirmed that it had severed ties with Taiwan after 82 years and established relations with China, whose ‘One China’ policy it now recognised. The announcement was made three days after a Honduran delegation headed up by the foreign minister, Eduardo Enrique Reina, began a visit to China.
