In brief: Chile’s unemployment rate continues to rise

* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new employment figures which show that unemployment stood at 8.4% during the December 2022-February 2023 rolling quarter, an increase of 0.9 percentage points year-on-year. INE notes that this is the fourth annual increase in unemployment following continuous decreases since the February-April 2021 rolling quarter. The 8.4% figure is slightly up on the 8.0% recorded for the previous rolling quarter. The informal employment rate stands at 27.3%, the same as the previous rolling quarter and down 0.5 percentage points year-on-year.
