GUATEMALA-BELIZE: Reaffirming ties to Taipei

A Taiwanese delegation headed up by President Tsai Ing-wen has paid a visit to Guatemala and Belize. The visit drew particular scrutiny coming days after Honduras became the latest country in the sub-region to break ties with Taiwan and establish relations with mainland China [WR-23-13]. This leaves Taiwan with just Guatemala and Belize as allies in Central America, previously a bastion of support for Taipei.
