In brief: Peru’s non-traditional agricultural exports rise year-on-year

* Peru’s central bank (BCRP) has announced that the country’s non-traditional agricultural exports totalled US$756m in February, an 18.8% increase compared to the same month last year. The country recorded a surge in sales of grapes (+71.5%), frozen squid (+207.2%), mangoes (+7.8%), blueberries (+63.2%), and calcium phosphates (+92.2%). In the first two months of 2023, non-traditional agricultural exports totalled US$1.57bn, a rise of 12% compared to the same period of 2022. Meanwhile, the national statistics institute (Inei) announced on 14 April that the volume of Peru’s total export of goods in February 2023 decreased by 30.6%, in large part due to anti-government demonstrations and road blockades which particularly affected copper and gold mines in the south of the country.
