In brief: Guatemala’s exports down

*Guatemala’s central bank (Banguat) has released a new report which shows that the country’s exports totalled US$2.4bn in the first two months of 2023, down 3.9% on the same period in 2022. The same figures showed imports totalled US$4.8bn in the first two months of 2023, down 2.9% on the same period in 2022. The drop was influenced mainly by a negative variation in raw materials and intermediate goods for industry. Guatemala’s main exports in the first two months of 2023 were: clothing which accounted for US$246.6m, followed by sugar (US$193.0m), cooking oil (US$169.8m), and coffee (US$161.3m) while the main destinations were Central America which received 33.9% of total exports, followed by the US (30.4%), and Europe (9.5%).
