Calderón turns populist
President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa sells himself to the US and the
Mexican business community as a staunch free marketer and the complete opposite
of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the leftwing populist Calderón defeated in the
2006 elections. Calderón's taste for subsidies, however, belies his
reputation.
