BRAZIL | Lula’s nod to workers. Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used the 1 May ‘Dia do Trabalhador’ (May Day or Labour Day) public holiday as a chance to announce a series of measures aimed at improving workers’ rights and conditions, including a higher minimum wage and an increase in the minimum threshold to pay income tax.
