MEXICO: The fight for CDMX

Mexico’s opposition Va por México coalition has its sights set on the capital. The leaders of the right-wing Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), centrist Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), and left-wing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) in Mexico City (CDMX) have signed an agreement to run as an alliance in elections to replace the city’s head of government in 2024. This is designed to boost the chances of the opposition in the capital by avoiding splitting the vote. However, the parties will have to truly put their differences aside if they are to have any hope of knocking the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) off top spot.
