Honduras’s economic development minister, Pedro Barquero, has become the first senior cabinet member to resign since the leftist Libertad y Refundación (Libre) government led by President Xiomara Castro took office in January 2022. A member of Partido Salvador de Honduras (PSH), which forged an electoral alliance with Libre that unravelled last year [WR-22-42], Barquero quit over a tax reform package which Castro has now sent to the 128-member legislature.
