VENEZUELA: Guaidó’s party drops him as presidential candidate

The demise of Venezuela’s former opposition leader Juan Guaidó now appears certain after his party, Voluntad Popular (VP), announced on 5 May that he would not be its candidate in presidential primary elections due to be held in October. It was a devastating blow to Guaidó’s presidential aspirations, which were already hanging by a thread following his expulsion from Colombia to the US on 24 April [WR-23-17].
