Morena’s ‘corcholatas’ primed in Mexico

The main 2024 presidential candidate hopefuls for the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) have not been shy in recent days. Known as the ‘corcholatas’ – meaning bottle tops, with the idea that the chosen candidate is ‘uncorked’ – several of the potential candidates took to the road over the weekend to attend events that looked suspiciously like campaigning, despite the formal campaign period not having begun.
