MEXICO: Opposition wrestles with presidential conundrum

The opposition Va por México is struggling to reach a consensus over a proposal for selecting a presidential candidate to represent the disparate coalition in the July 2024 elections. A key problem for Va por México is that, with just over a year to go before the elections, the coalition has around 20 presidential hopefuls, none of whom can be considered particularly well-known household names, while the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) has at most three or four well-known and high-profile candidates bidding to succeed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
