* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the country’s balance of payments for April, showing a current account deficit of US$1.7bn, in contrast to the surpluses of US$286m registered in March this year and of US$100m registered in April 2022. The current account deficit in the 12 months to April this year was US$54.2bn (2.76% of GDP), a greater deficit than the US$52.4bn (2.67% of GDP) in the 12 months to March and the US$44.6bn (2.56% of GDP) registered in the 12 months to April last year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) for April this year decreased in monthly and yearly terms, registering US$3.3bn, down from the US$7.7bn in March and from the US$11.1bn in April 2022.
