* Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel has hosted his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi in the capital Havana. This is the final stop of a tour of the region by Raisi which also took in Venezuela and Nicaragua – countries which, like Iran, are subject to US sanctions. The two leaders announced that six cooperation agreements had been signed covering areas including “comprehensive political cooperation, customs relations, justice and information technology”. Also in Havana, President Raisi met Cuba’s former president Raúl Castro (2008-2018) and participated in a Cuba-Iran economic forum. He highlighted as areas of cooperation, nanotechnology and biotechnology as well as energy and mining. Raisi’s visit comes as Cuba continues to bolster ties with long-time allies Russia and China, both also subject to US sanctions.
