* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its latest economic activity index (IBC-Br), used as a proxy to anticipate GDP figures, which showed a 0.63% rise in economic activity from May to June, following the slowdown registered in May (-2.0%). With this latest result, the accumulated economic activity for the first half of 2023 showed a 3.42% increase, and the accumulated figure for the 12 months until June saw a 3.35% increase compared to the previous 12-month period. Private sector economists and analysts, whose economic projections are published in the BCB’s weekly Focus bulletin, have also sent a positive signal about Brazil’s growth prospects. In the most recent bulletin, released on 14 August, the experts predicted that annual GDP growth would reach 2.29%, up from the 2.26% growth forecast the previous week.
