ECUADOR: Campaigning closes with a murder allegation
Campaigns drew to a close this week ahead of the second round of the presidential election on 15 October. The final days of campaigning proved dramatic, with Revolución Ciudadana (RC), the party of left-wing candidate Luisa González, denying any involvement in the 9 August assassination of anti-corruption candidate Fernando Villavicencio. RC’s statement came after six men suspected of involvement in the assassination were murdered in prison on 6 October.
