Alejandro Moreno, the national leader of Mexico’s centrist opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), has emphatically slammed the door on some prominent former party members. On 5 October, Moreno announced the expulsion of 15 politicians in a clear power play, not least given that several of those ejected had tendered their resignations months ago, and an indication of his intention to remain at the helm of the PRI despite questions around his leadership.
