Near-confrontation at Ciudad Juárez

The killing of a 14-year-old boy under a border railway bridge at Ciudad Juárez almost led to a confrontation between Mexican security forces and US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents on 7 June. An FBI spokesman said that agents saw Mexican soldiers point their guns at them as they tried to investigate the incident. The Mexican defence ministry curtly dismissed this claim, and Mexican eyewitnesses suggested that the FBI agents could not distinguish between Mexican soldiers and federal police officers.
