* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures which show that the consumer price index (IPC) registered an increase of 0.4% in October in monthly terms, with annual inflation coming in at 5.0%. This compares with monthly inflation of 0.7% in September, when the year-on-year rate was 5.1% which in turn was down from 5.3% in August and 6.5% in July. In monthly terms, the steepest price increases in October were seen in alcoholic beverages & tobacco (+2.4%), recreation & culture (+1.8%), housing & basic services (+1.0%), and food & non-alcoholic beverages (+0.9%), among other sectors, while decreases were registered in clothing & footwear (-3.7%), home maintenance & equipment (-1.6%), and communications (-0.1%).
