Although they are economic competitors with rival business models, new and old media can work together to buttress freedom of information. It is noteworthy that some of the exposés of the dark world of disinformation specialists mentioned in this report have been achieved by collaboration between online and traditional media. Some advances can also be made by increasing what has been called ‘information literacy’, raising awareness within the general public of the need to verify online sources of information. The spread of fact-checking websites is also viewed as positive.
