Ebrard stays put

Mexico’s former foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard (2018-2023) will remain within the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party, ending two months of speculation surrounding his future with the party. Ebrard’s decision is a boost for Morena, which continues to tout the unity and loyalty of its movement. It also eliminates the possibility of Ebrard running for president for an opposition party in 2024, potentially taking votes from Morena’s base. Instead, Ebrard is setting his sights on the 2030 race. However, his position within the party remains uncertain as his relations with prominent members appear strained.
