In brief: Chile’s unemployment up in yearly terms

* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest employment figures which show that unemployment stood at 8.9% in the August-October rolling quarter. This is unchanging on the July-September rolling quarter although up from 8.0% registered in the August-October quarter in 2022. The number of unemployed people increased by 15% year-on-year, impacted by those who were unemployed (15.6%) and by those looking for work for the first time (7.7%). According to the INE, the rate of informal employment stood at 27%, marking a decrease of 0.7 percentage points compared to the same quarter last year.
